We are very honoured that Archbishop Desmond Tutu will be attending our next Masi fundraising event on September 26th, 2009. Our goal is to raise the final $125,000 required to complete the construction of the Youth Centre.  We hope you can join us for this last stretch and be part of Realizing the Dream.

On-site Progress

I am very excited to let you know that the plan is to commence construction in January 2010, and to have the opening ceremonies of the Youth Centre in Masiphumelele in June 2010 just before the World Cup. This is very exciting news for us, who have been supporting the project, and it will be transform the lives of the children and youth of the township of Masiphumelele. Here are copies of MYP’s architect, Nelson Barbosa's drawings, providing an overview of the site:

A team of local workers have been selected to maximize the positive economic effect of the project on the region. At least 50% of the construction workers will be local youth, who will be empowered to participate in the development of their own centre.
